A new Immigration Act comes into force on 29 November,
simplifying the immigration process and improving enforcement
powers. Two important changes are to the obligations on employers
and sponsors.
Employers will need to be more vigilant checking applicants'
rights to work in New Zealand. An online tool to help
this process is to be created by the Department of Labour.
Organisations and businesses will become eligible to sponsor
migrants.
Sponsors will now be fully liable for the maintenance,
accommodation and repatriation of migrants sponsored.
