Trade mark renewals - it pays to be suspicious

By Mike Worsnop - 23 Jul 2014

Have you recently received any official looking letters from the Patent & Trademark Organisation LLC? Treat these with suspicion. If you respond, you could end up paying exorbitant prices to renew your trade mark.

These letters contain information that is publicly available online about a trade mark including the case number, the classes in which the trade mark is registered, the date the application was filed and the expiry date.

Any letters regarding your trade mark should come from the professional appointed to manage your trade mark, the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand or the World Intellectual Property Office. Mike Worsnop can help you verify the authenticity of any correspondence received.
