Litigation
Property,
building and construction disputes
Mathew is a senior associate in our litigation team. He advises
on general civil litigation, working alongside Geoff Hardy, Tony Johnson and
Jacque
Lethbridge.
Civil and commercial
litigation
Mathew advises on general civil and commercial litigation
matters, including insolvency, debt recovery, contract disputes,
residential tenancy, land and property disputes. Mathew has
experience in dealing with disputes at all levels, from the
appellate courts to specialist tribunals.
Construction disputes
In construction matters, Mathew advises on disputes arising
under the Construction Contracts Act 2002 and the Building Act
2004. Mathew has represented builders and homeowners in
adjudications under the Construction Contracts Act, advising on
payment claims and payment schedules, and representing builders in
professional disciplinary matters.
Employment law
Mathew assists in employment matters, advising on
redundancies and restructuring, serious misconduct, personal
grievances, and breaches of restraints of trade.
Immigration law
Mathew has experience across all
areas of immigration law. This includes experience in investor
category and business migration visa applications, temporary entry
and resident visa applications, appeals to the Immigration and
Protection Tribunal, section 61 applications and Ministerial
requests.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours
and a Bachelor of Laws from the Victoria University of Wellington
and was admitted to the High Court of New Zealand in December
2014.
Prior to joining Martelli McKegg, Mathew was a solicitor in the
litigation team of a medium sized law firm. Mathew has a background
in immigration, criminal, family, and general civil litigation.
