The Government's financial assistance package for owners of
leaky homes has recently come into effect. Home owners may choose
between taking the Council to Court for the recovery of the costs
of repairs, or signing up for the assistance package. Accepting the
package means that home owners cannot seek any further compensation
from the Council.
If they choose the package option, the Government will
contribute 25% of the cost of repairs, and, if it originally
certified the defective works, the local Council will contribute a
further 25% of the cost of repairs.
The package does not prevent home owners from bringing claims
against other building contractors involved for the rest of their
loss.
