The Family Violence Act 2018 will shortly come into force
replacing the Domestic Violence Act. This new Act is designed to
give the courts better guidance about the nature and impact of
family violence.
Some of the highlights of the Act include:
- Employers will become obliged to provide:
- up to 10 days' leave to victims of domestic violence
- short term variations to their working arrangements
- Certain approved organisations will become empowered to apply
for protection orders on behalf of victims
- Information will be able to be shared between social service
practitioners and family violence agencies to ensure more
integrated and coordinated responses to family violence
incidents.
