New Zealand Member of Meritas

If you need commercial legal advice outside New Zealand, Martelli McKegg can introduce you to experienced lawyers in over 96 countries.

Our firm is the New Zealand member of Meritas - a global alliance of 191 independent, full-service business law firms with more than 7,500 experienced lawyers.

Wherever your legal need exists, we can introduce you to a Meritas firm that understands the local business climate, legal system and social customs.

The Australasian Meritas member firms have assisted in creating two helpful legal guides:

Legal Guide for Business Investment and Expansion - New Zealand

Legal Guide for Business Investment and Expansion - Australia

They have also collated a guide for doing business during the Covid-19 pandemic. Entitlted An Introduction to Temporary Changes Affecting businesses in Australia and New Zealand, it provides business and legal guidance during this time.

Assurance of quality service

To become a Meritas firm, we had to pass a rigorous 10-step selection process. To maintain our membership, we must participate in an ongoing re-certification programme and regular client satisfaction evaluations.

Our global affiliates must meet the same high standards. So when you use a Meritas law firm, you can be sure of receiving first-class service and expert legal advice.

Representation within Meritas

The firm is involved in the management of Meritas within the Australasian region.  Mike Worsnop and Melissa Higham currently serve on the management committee of Meritas' regional Australian and New Zealand subgroup.

Mike and Melissa continue Martelli McKegg's tradition of taking an active leadership role in Meritas. When Meritas was known as Commercial Law Affiliates, Philip Wells was on the international board of directors from 1998 to early 2001.

Meritas Exchange Programme

The Meritas group of law firms is recommencing its lawyer exchange programme. It's an excellent way for lawyers from single office firms to gain valuable experience in different jurisdictions. Martelli McKegg was in the pilot group back in 2019 and it's great to see it starting back again. Read more about the latest exchanges here.
