Steven is a partner at Martelli McKegg and leads the Asian
Investment Group. He was born and raised in Auckland, and is
considered by his clients to be practical and results
orientated.
Steven provides strategic legal advice to a range of local and
international clients in the areas of property, commercial law and
financing. Steven has special interest in retail chains, commercial
leases and property developments. He regularly receives referrals
to assist with complex legal issues and is well known for helping
his clients to succeed in all respects of their businesses by
introducing connections and providing local industry knowledge.

Steven's experience includes:
- Supporting numerous shopping centre owners and managed funds in
lease negotiations with Australian retail chains launching in New
Zealand
- Acting for international and national retail chains on leasing,
subleasing, licensing, sale and leaseback agreements and
franchising agreements
- Acting for the purchaser of the proposed acquisition of a chain
of hotels and restaurants
- Advising on major resort development in respect to build and
lease agreements on facilities and offices
- Acting on major residential subdivision projects
Steven has previously worked in large and specialist law firms
in Auckland and Melbourne. His understanding of New Zealand and
Australian business environments makes him a valuable asset to
Asian and Australian businesses expanding into the New Zealand
market.
Prior to working as a lawyer, Steven worked for accounting firm
KPMG in New Zealand assisting companies with financial investment
issues and operational functionality. Steven has a strong
understanding of accounting and business processes.
Steven has strong communication skills and prefers to
communicate by phone or face to face with clients in order to get a
better understanding of their needs. Steven also speaks Cantonese
and is actively involved with various Asian business and community
associations.
